A couple of thoughts to share
Dear Leaders
A couple of thoughts to share :
Preserve your sphere:
The latest news of the arrest of the data entry operator in the CBSE examination controller’s office of CBSE is one more reminder of the responsibility of each of us. The boss cannot absolve himself of the culpability. He is responsible for the leak of the CBSE medical entrance question paper. That is the price of being a leader. There is no option. The story is the same for the top man at Sachdeva one of whose managers was
also apprehended by the long arm of the police.
This piece of information is a crude reminder to each one of us who are leaders at CL. Please be vigilant. Please be vigilant about the attitudes in our organization. While there are a lot of reasons to be proud of our ‘core’, we cannot be complacent about it. We have no opportunity to recover when some thing goes wrong. And, I would urge you to be paranoid in preserving the core values of CL. The business outcomes are a natural by-product. The leader has to own it up without any questions. And, I am the guy at CL at the organizational level. And, you are the guy at the regional level. Give quality time to build a values driven organization. I have every ounce of confidence that you are the guy.
Business Leaders Channel:
I received a mail from Adi a short while ago saying that he is feeling a little left out after the shift to Hyderabad. I must admit that I did feel the same when I moved to Mumbai. Sreeni has shared this story more than once. Arun Pai wanted to kill me in his peak hour of frustration. You too would have felt the same some time or the other. Also, let me tell you that Nikhil and Suzy too have said that the reverse current does not flow either fom us at Non-Delhi locations to Delhi. We have a channel created called the ‘business leaders’. We have two additional Bodhi channels - acads and business. The idea is to help the information, excitements, small bits of successes flow from each location to every other location. Whenever you feel left out, please share information about your region on these channel. I had suggested in my opening mail that each of us must contribute at least a small piece on these channels. I assume that the BPs too can contribute on the Bodhi channels. Please share. If I think of the western region I can think of at least a short mail that is possible every week. There is a lot of action underway in every CL location, I am sure. It is your responsibility to update the rest of us.
The Engineering juggarnaut rolls out:
C K Prahalad termed ‘Core Competence’ more than two decades ago. In our journey, the JEE has got embedded into our core competence in the last couple of months with the merger of ARC. I would want to you to believe that I am understating by saying that. I am inclined to say that ‘DNA engineering’ was required and we have accomplished that. We will cross 200 enrolments in Mumbai by the end of this week. The entire credit goes to the fabulous team under the leadership of Amitabh, Riaz and Arun Roy. With the already committed team in Delhi with die-hards like Sharad, Jitin, a Subbu ( I call him adi of 99 with more strengths J) in Pune, suman and Pankaj in Patna, Mandar, Namita and Rajiv in Mumbai from the old guard, the juggarnaut has just rolled out. Can you forget Sreeni ? Believe in yourself. We have the next super star product on hand. You have the responsibility to make it happen for CL.
And. Let me assure that you have just begun to watch the trailer!! I am using this example to drive home the core point of life - when the commitment to accomplish some goal is very deep and unquestioned, the goal dare not escape you. Form is temporary. Clas is permanent. CL is about world class. We have miles to go. But, beware the dinosaurs!. The CL juggarnaut is coming your way.
One word about Arun Roy. He is the second Shivku of CL. If you can find a million flaws in Shivku, you will find most of them in Arun Roy. But, there is one strength that both have which makes me put them as the first members when I write out my team in a hundred years. The passion for academics. They are unadulterated. They can breath what suffocates most people. And that is the heart of our business. It far outweighs all their cumulative weaknesses. Find your time to interact with an agenda to like him. Do not judge from a managerial grid. I am enjoying my interactions with him. The love for science has begun to encroach me. And, I have my first session with the JEE students tomorrow. No marks for guessing what is the session called……….
With appreciation
