Deccan is dead

A friend of mine, Arun Pai, had informed me about a Holiday to North India along with his family. Arun was planning at stay at home in Delhi and go around driving for about a week. As a follow-up, the usual SMS conversation ensued. The final two sms from Arun read thus – “Most likely not coming. No More Air Deccan 45K too much for airfare”. I enquired about ‘Why not by train ?” Pai’s reply said – “Sold for a month. Too tough now. The end of low cost airline is sad. Will do Delhi next year with more planning”

Q1. A cricket aficionado to the core, what made you quit cricket for education?

Satya:  I was pursuing cricket quite seriously and as a career option until I got into the final stages of my college at St. Stephen’s.  At that stage,  I realised that my cricketing career was hitting a plateau and I needed to reinvent myself through academics.  I was running the risk of getting into sports quota jobs with the usual PSU gang - Indian Airlines, SBI etc,.  As any one who has played a bit of sports knows only too well,  unless you hit the top bracket, life could be very challenging in sports.
